Waysted
. Again.
I know, this is the longest time Ive been without putting up a new journal but Ive just been so busy I havent had time to scratch my arse, and its really itchy.
But here we are again! Ok, so first up, the Waysted thing; After telling myself Id never go back there, I have. And theres a lot of reasons why I did, the main one being Fin, who in the 18 months Ive been away from the band has turned himself round completely, and has kicked the booze. I first noticed it last year when I saw the guys at the Waysted show in Glasgow that I filled in on. Since then hes just got better and better.
I got a call from FB (Waysteds manager) asking if Id be interested in just doing some writing with Fin. He explained there was a deal on the table from LiveWire (owned by our good friends at Cargo) and that the band were going for a meeting there in a couple of days. I just kind of went along with it, and told FB Id come down and see the guys in London in a view to rejoining if it was all cool. I went down to London that day and it was all good, Pete looked really well along with RD and of course, Mr Fin who was on the cranberry juice. The meeting went well and before we knew it we were in Bournemouth writing and rehearsing new material, the one thing we wanted to do was turn this round as quick as possible and have the album out by the Autumn, which is still going to plan. After a week in Bournemouth we re-grouped in Newcastle a couple of weeks later at Trinity Heights Studio with the great guy that is Fred Purser (Tygers of Pan-Tang etc.) at the desk. We commenced recording and got a LOT done, in fact 90% of the album. At the same time Classic Rock magazine heard we got it going again and asked us to cover a song from the movies, any one we liked, for the next issue of CR (out next month). I wanted to do Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith, as a nod to one of my favourite bands and also I thought we could do it justice, and seeing as we were going to be in the studio anyway, it all made sense. Its the only song so far done and dusted and sounds brilliant, but wait til you hear the album. The whole band are ON!
Fin has been finishing his vocals this week and mixing starts tomorrow .
The best thing about this album has been the creative process before it. I came up with about 90% of the music, along with ideas from Pete, and Fin has just been amazing with melodies and lyrics for the songs, it all fits. Its quite diverse in places, but 100% Waysted.
So, this obviously doesnt effect whats going on with the whole CGB/Marshall thing. The summer is usually quiet anyway, so I had the time to do the Waysted album, shame we never did the Penrith Guitar Show this year, but hey, that's the way it is I guess. In fact, weve got a couple of really busy months coming up; were in France in a couple of weeks, then Frome, then back to Moscow, Guitarfest in Birmingham (with Scott Ian from Anthrax heading the bill!), and a load of UK Roadshows after that. Weve had some great shows in the last few months, and the album is selling really well too. You havent got a copy yet? Why not?!
What else have I been up to the last few months? Well I finally met my hero Slash at Download and it was well worth the wait, went to the Kerrang awards which was cool, apart from not knowing who many of the bands were (but Judas Priest and Machine Head being there made up for it), went to Jims 84th birthday party (hes definitely on the mend and looking great), plus loads of other stuff like flying a glider, going to the british GP with my Dad, my Dad turning 60, and my little girl turning 2, man that makes me feel old, I dont know where the time has gone
Also, a couple of good forums to check out at the moment. Firstly the Waysted forum, and
a forum dedicated to the Marshall Vintage Modern, links are at the bottom there.
See ya soon, promise I wont leave it so long next time.
