Well, I think last month was possibly the busiest ever, Paris, Frome, a one off with Waysted in Glasgow, Huntingdon, Birmingham, Lowestoft, Colchester, the live album from Waysted coming out and filming for a DVD! More about that in a minute...
So we'll start with Paris, it was a great show, the first music show there for a long time and you could tell as the place was packed. We went over with Jim and some of the Marshall guys on the 8th, and for once we were playing on Farid's home soil. We got there Friday and the show started Saturday and ran til Tuesday. We played on the Algam stage which is Marshall's distributor in France and the place seemed full every time which was great. On the Monday night Farid had arranged our own show at the Hard Rock Cafe. So after we finished at the Music show we jumped a cab over to the Hard Rock and set up for the that night. The place was heaving and the show was great. We were joined by Isabelle and Serj, (Serj had filled in for Rob at the show the previous day when Rob had to come back to England briefly), and also Nono from Farid's other band, Trust. Everybody had a great time, and muchos thanks to Laurent and everybody at the HRC Paris, we'll be back!!
After we got back from Paris, we were in Frome for the South West Guitar Show. It was the first show there and pretty busy, we've played in Frome quite a lot before and there's always a good crowd.
The following couple of days were spent at the Marshall theatre in the grounds of the factory filming for an upcoming DVD series. I can't say any more than that at the moment if I want to keep my nuts, but all will be announced in the next 2 weeks so keep an eye here, it all looks & sounds very cool at the moment ...
I had a call from Fin that week, Waysted were back out on tour with a new guitarist and Fin was wondering if I'd go up and do Glasgow with them, which was always a great place to play with those guys. I checked my diary and it was clear so on the Friday (22nd) I jumped on a flight up there, hooked up with the guys (who I hadn't seen since February at the last gig I did with them supporting Nazareth), and they all looked really well, particularly Fin who gave up the drink 6 months ago. With no rehearsal and very brief soundcheck we had a great show, it was as if wed just been playing last week. I know I said never again, but hey, thats life. It was a one off and Ive had all sorts of emails asking if Id be going back permanently, but the answer is most definitely no.
I flew back to Luton the following day (Saturday) and met Farid at the airport, his flight from Paris landed about an hour before mine. We had a show that night in Huntingdon for the launch of the new website alloutguitar.com which I'm one of the contributors for. There were loads of great players on the night and it was cool to see them all. We were on last and it was cool, but definitely wasnt one of our best, using backline we werent used to (no Marshalls!?!?!?!?) and I never understand some lighting people and why they keep the stage so dark when theres a billion lights to be used. But anyway, it was all cool.
The next day (Sunday) we were in Birmingham for Guitarfest. It was a great day and good to catch up with people I hadnt seen in a while. Bernie (Marsden) was there as were The Quireboys. Michael Schenker didnt make it but I dont think that ruined anybodys day really, the place was packed. We had 40 minutes so after doing Van Widdle, it only left us enough time for a very rushed/abbreviated version of Voodoo Chile. Everybody dug it though and it was cool speaking to so many people after.
The next day we viewed the first DVD, then Tuesday I went up to mix the sound for it. Wednesday we were in Lowestoft for a Marshall Roadshow, its the second one weve done there and was once again a really good turnout. And Thursday (28th) we went straight down to Colchester for another Roadshow which was equally as good. Thanks to all the people who came along!!
So, next month were at Music Live, itll be good to be back there as its been a couple of years, weve got a slot on the main stage as well as the demo room (which apparently is the management suite near the front entrance of the show, follow the Marshall signs!). Marshall will be launching a brand new amp there (which is where the DVD comes into effect too), its a real cracker, so come check it out.
See ya!
